Come Home Safe and Sound: Wear Your Seatbelt

seat belts safety, safety driving, drive safely, seatbelts for kids

Life is short and we never know what will happen next, while riding a bus or driving your car. It is always nice to play safe most of the time for your family and friends, who are expecting you to come home safe. It doesn’t really matter how fast you reach your destination, what matters are the life you put in your hands, especially when you bring your kids with you.

December 16, 2011, it was my daughter’s 6th birthday; we went out to celebrate. It was an hour long drive away from home. My husband has some few drinks so I decided to drive the car. My two kids age 11 and 5 were sleeping at the back seat tired from the activities we had all day, while I and my husband are talking. On our way home hitting 100km an hour speed, I tipped off the road’s shoulder and zigzagged avoiding the path holes due to some roads under construction. I decided to hit the piled yard beside the road and stopped just a few feet away from the electric post. I thanked God we’re safe but the kids were horrified.  I cried seeing my kids crying and husband in shock!

I was so thankful that we were wearing seatbelts at the time. I realized how important it is, that no matter how tired and anxious you are to drive and head your way home or to your destination, always bear in mind that above all, safety comes first. Buckling up on each and every ride is the most essential thing a family can do to remain safe in the car. It will only take a little of your time but will save your life from unforeseen circumstances.

Driving with kids is such a big responsibility no matter how short the trip is or how careful you are when driving.  First of all, never put your kids on the front seat, it’s a big no! Kids below thirteen years of age have to sit at the back seat for safety purpose. Kids below three years old must have an appropriate car seat. This is very important since at their age, seatbelts are usually big and won’t fit them. If there’s no car seat, adjust the seatbelt to fit them. Have your kids sit straight when using seat belts, we all know they want to slouch, move around and play inside the car. Remember to never let them put the shoulder belt below their arms or behind their back, most children do this because it irritates them. Explain to them the importance of wearing seat and shoulder belt. Let them know that a little bump may injure them one way or another if they won’t buckle up. Of course parents need to be their role model. Show them that you care for them and that you are a responsible parent.

Accidents happen when we least expect it. Buckle up your seatbelts and drive your way home to your family safely!

Home Made Chocolate Cupcake

Since I bought my new GE Microwave oven I've always been excited to make cupcakes for my kids. For that reason, one day I bought all the stuffs needed to make one. Now this is the result of my experiment and I'm very proud to say that my kids love it and even their dad love it too.

Upon baking, I accidentally created this moist cake and she loves it too :)

I found this Chocolate Moist Cake recipe online that I would like to share with everybody.
Total time: Prep: 20 min. Bake: 30 min. + cooling

1-1/2 cups cake flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup canola oil
1 Egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

FROSTING:
1/2 cup sugar
4-1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 ounce unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup hot coffee or water
4-1/2 teaspoons butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

-In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking soda and salt; set aside.
-In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate and butter.
-Cover and microwave on high for 1 minute. Stir; cook 30 seconds longer or until melted.
-In a small bowl, combine the buttermilk, oil and egg.
-Add to dry ingredients; beat just until combined. Add the chocolate mixture and vanilla.
-Pour into a greased 8-in. square baking dish.
-Bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack.
-For frosting, in a saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch, salt and chocolate; stir in the coffee until blended.
-Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir until mixture is thickened.
-Remove from the heat; stir in butter and vanilla.
-Spread warm frosting over cake.
-Will make 9 servings. Enjoy!

My Son's Very First Trip

Today I was panicking a bit when I realized that it's past 4pm and my son wasn't able to get home yet after his class. He should be home by 3:45PM since classes end @ 3:30 assuming 15mins of time spent on a little chitchat after class and traveling back home. He's supposed to go home with his older cousin but apparently isn't home too.

I called my sister the mother of his cousin asking if she has any knowledge about the whereabouts of the 2 kids. She said that she failed to inform me that her son asked her permission earlier that he'll be with his classmate and they'll be proceeding on the mall right after classes end. I felt so nervous and thoughts keep running on my mind on the possibilities that either my son has joined his cousin or might still be in school waiting for his cousin. I called my friend who works just outside the school's building if she happened to see my son but she told me she didn't the little bit of panic is now going stronger.

Just right after my conversation on the phone with my friend the gate squeaks and I saw my son coming in. I was so happy seeing him coming in and have welcomed him home the way I never did before. He told me that after getting bored waiting for his cousin at school for a long time he then decided to go home alone. I kept on asking him whether he felt scared and how he got home but he just smiled and told me he's big enough to go home alone. I am so proud of my son's achievement but i still feel he must not be allowed to travel alone. I decided to buy him a cellphone so I can contact him anytime he comes home late.
